Broderson is a crane manufacturing company. They are based in Kansas and have been manufacturing cranes for more than 50 years!
Although they do produce a rough-terrain crane, they are most well known for their carry-deck cranes! These cranes are hard workers and extremely versatile. They come in many shapes / sizes, but the general idea is the same. Shorter booms. Smaller bodies.
They have outriggers but can also lift smaller smaller items and drive with them - this is called “pick-and-carry.” Some models even have back wheels that turn! This makes it possible to make very precise turns in small spaces.
So Broderson cranes really excel in a few different areas:
Cranes are really good at lifting in tight spots… so long as they can reach in from somewhere else. You see… cranes are generally LARGE. This means that they are not going to be able to set up unless they have room to swing the boom, set out outriggers, etc.
When you have a tight spot… you want a smaller crane!
For instance, if you are in a residential area with a large house or heavy tree cover. Or if you are in a construction yard where ground pressure must be kept to a minimum! Or maybe in a city district where roads are tight and there is not enough room to set up a larger crane.
If you’re in an industrial or factory setting… you often have heavy machinery to work with! And that machinery is inside. This is a problem for most cranes.
We can’t set up the “big boys” inside of a building for a few reasons. You’ve got ground pressure. Unless your building slab was constructed to handle SUPER heavy loads, setting up a crane inside is a bad idea.
Then we also have height issues. Have you ever tried to play inside of a child’s jungle gym at Chick-fil-A? It’s a tight fit right? It wasn’t made to accommodate your height! Same with your building. Unless it was made to accommodate a crane’s height (think stadium / etc.), then us setting up is going to be a tough sell!
So that is where Carry-Deck cranes like Brodersons come in!
Brodersons have smaller booms and a tighter profile. Not to mention the lighter weight. So they can set up indoors, underneath a normal-sized 30-40 foot industrial roof, and get your lift done!
