Do crane companies do residential work?

Do crane companies do residential work?

Short answer: yes!

But how often? What does it cost? For what types of jobs?

Let’s get started!

Crane Operators in Your Neighborhood

Cranes are huge! But do they show up in neighobrhoods? For sure! It’s always a bit tight for mobile cranes to pop into your neck of the woods, but we do it pretty regularly.

You have to have a good operator, though! Many bigger companies will avoid residential work because the risk of imprecision is quite high. Further, they can be challenging lifts because we usually have to set up on the road.

Types of Jobs

There are a bunch of reasons you might see a crane in your neighborhood. Tree removal is one of the most common. For tree removal, you need to call a tree company. They may pull in a crane operator like us, but you are going to do a completely different evaluation of quality for someone taking a tree off your property.

Some ideas of the types of things that we do regularly: construction, pool building, swim spa or hot tub placement, big landscaping features, pizza or outdoor ovens, and shed placement. We lift stuff that is far too heavy to lift by hand, and we do it just about anywhere on your property that has no roof!

Cost

Every job is different. If we’re setting something in your front yard, that’s a breeze! If we have to lift over your house, then we are going to need a bigger crane and the cost increases. As a result, you should definitely reach out to a qualified (and insured!) crane rental company to get a quote for what your particular job entails.

For a ballpark estimate, most jobs are in the $1,000 to $5,000 range, with a handful of complex lifts extending into the $10,000+ range.

It’s worth keeping in mind that some companies will give you a quoted rate and then tack on a bunch of fees. Setup fees, transport fees, fuel surcharge… you name it. Be mindful of this when you’re asking for the quote and see if they will give you some of those fees up front! You don’t want to be surprised when you get your invoice!

Choose Wisely

The biggest thing you should be concerned with is choosing a good company. Clear communication, up front pricing, and good customer service are a priority in the residential crane world. Make sure you understand what you’re getting without having to study up and become a crane expert.
